Update on my reading progress.

Hi everyone, hope everyone's having a great wednesday night. I just thought I'd update you on how my current read is going and a little backround.

I started Don't Breathe A Word by Jennifer McMahon on Monday (August 29, 2011) and I'm currently 42% done with it. I'm on page 189 and there are 447 pages altogether. I don't have a picture of the book right now, but I will get on that before my review.

So, this book is about a 12 year old girl who becomes fascinated with this town called Reliance that supposedly disappeared one night and she believes that it is being haunted by fairies. She spends most of her time with her younger brother Sam and her cousin Evie trying to find these fairies. Then one day, she tells Sam she's going into the woods to be with the Fairy King and she's never heard from again.

I know that is a horrible synopsis, but that's all I know as of right now. So, the story goes back and forth from present day to 15 years ago and it's told from present day Phoebe (Sam's girlfriend) and Lisa's point of view from 15 years ago from right before she disappeared. And let me tell you, this story is definetly definetly a page turner! I honestly can NOT put this book down! There are soooooo many twists and turns that it's hard to NOT get completely drawn in.

As of right now, I'd have to give this 3 stars, but I'll be writing a review soon hopefully once I finish. Have a great day and happy reading!

Small Update

First off, thank you sooo soo much for everyone who has visited my blog and given me advice and followed and all of that. You are greatly appreciated! I know I'm pretty far behind in the blogging world, so I hope I can catch up a little.

So, about the update, since I have quite alot of books that I own to read, and it's coming up on the return date for my library books & I still have about 7 books to read and only maybe 2 weeks to read them, I might be returning them in the next few days so I don't forget. So, with that being said, is there any books you guys would like to see a review on? All the books I mentioned in the IMM post I'll most likely do a review on, minus the library ones.

Hope everyone has a great day and happy reading!

Introduction

Hi, I wanted to officially introduce myself and give a little information about my blog and myself.

My name is Kandes & I've been an avid reader pretty much my whole life. My dad says it's because he used to read to me when I was in my mama's belly. :] I only recently got back fully into reading like I used to be when I was around 11 or 12. I used to blow through 3 or 4 books a week, but then during high school, reading kind of took a backseat to boys and friends lol. But for the past few months, I've become such an avid reader and I'm hoping to one day have my own personal library.

Some of my favorite types of books are murder mysteries & vampire stories & a little paranormal YA type books.

On this blog, I'll doing IMM posts either when I buy new books or maybe twice a month as an update blog. I'll also be reviewing all the books I read & passing on some new book related news I hear about.

I hope you all enjoy my blog & let me know how I can do better.

Book Review: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White***

As promised, here is my review on Paranormalcy by Kiersten White.

First off, I wanted to let you guys know, this is part of a series (not sure what the whole series is called) and the other 2 in the series are called Supernaturally and Endlessly. Endlessy, unfortunately, won't be out in the US until 2012 sometime, but Supernaturally is available. I don't currently own Supernaturally, but I plan to very soon because I absolutely adored this book!

So, for my review, I haven't decided how I wanna rate yet, that'll come at another date. For now, I'll just do the 3 star rating.
1 star-HATE IT.
2 star-ehhhhh it's ok I suppose.
3 stars- ahhhhhhmazing!
And another lil tidbit, on the title of the posts for book reviews, I'll post the title, author, and then I'll put how many stars I rated it. (Example: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White ***)
Is that an okay way of doing things? I'm still learning, so please let me know what you think.

Anyways, as the title shows, I rated this 3 stars, because it was definetly amazing! I wasn't really sure I was going to like it because I've been kind of turned off from YA lately because sometimes it's a bit juvenile for me. But this was just a really great story! Well written, really relateable characters, funny dialogue, and of course a great love story.

I think my favorite character overall was Lish because she reminds me of some of my friends and she was just a fun character. I liked Evie, but there were a few things I didn't like. I didn't like the fact that she kind of came off snobby at the beginning of the book, but then you later find out that's just how she is.

Miss White definetly drew me into the story from the very beginning. I'm definetly excited for the 2nd and 3rd book in the series.

I'm currently reading Don't Breathe A Word by Jennifer McMahon & I'm only on page 68 so I'm not too far into it but it's pretty good so far. I'll have a review up as soon as I'm done.

I also forgot to mention in my IMM post that I also have Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt and So This Is Readin? by Tripp Underwood which is a documentary type book about the punk band The Unseen written by their bassist It's a short book with maybe 50-100 pages so I probably won't do a review on it, so let me know if you'd like me to or if you want more info. thanks!

Just gettin started

Hi everyone, my name's Kandes & I recently decided to start my own blog for book reviews and IMMs and other book related stuff. I was watching Kristi at the Story Siren and got inspired by her IMM posts.

These past couple weeks I've been slowly starting my book collection again because when I was younger (I've been reading since I was about 10 or 11) I used to just give my books away because we moved around alot and there really wasn't any room for it. But I've been slowly buying a few more. So, without further ado, here are the books I've gotten over the past month or so from Wal Mart, Target and, of course, the LIBRARY!

I've never really done this before, so it might be a little scattered and messy, please excuse the messiness :] So, last friday my husband and I decided to go to the Borders closing sale and browse through the books. We found some really good ones in the Bargain Bin area. These are the ones I picked up:
Buffy The Vampire Slayer vol. 2 (bind up of Halloween Rain, Bad Bargain, and Afterimage)
Thirst No. 1 (bind up of The Last Vampire, Black Blood and Red Dice) by Christopher Pike
Thirst No. 2 (bind up of Phantom, Evil Thirst, and Creatures of Forever) by Christopher Pike
Burnin' Up: The Jonas Bros Story (for my lil bros)
Then we went again yesterday to pick up some more awesomely cheap books and these are what I got!
Dracula The Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker
Morganville Vampires vol. 2 (bind up of Midnight Alley & Feast of Fools) by Rachel Caine
The Forest of Hands & Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Mockingbird by Charles J. Shields (a really interesting biography on Harper Lee, the author of To Kill A Mockingbird)
So, in case you were wondering, I only picked up #2 of Buffy and Morganville Vampires because that's the only ones they had at the sale & all these books came out to about $2 each so I could NOT pass them up!

Now, onto Target books:
Beastly by Alex Flinn
Yeah, I only got one book from there this past month, BUT it has a cute story behind it! I'd been wanting to read this book ever since it came out, but we never had the money, or I would forget when we were at the store. So, I tried to get it at the library, but they didn't have it. So, one day when we were at Target, I was looking at the books, and couldn't find my husband anywhere! When I did find him, I guess he checked out without me, and when we got home, he handed me the book, isn't that sweet?

I also like to go to our local used book store and trade in books. These are the ones I've picked up.
The Next Accident by Lisa Gardner
Jessica's Guide To Dating On The Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey
I haven't been able to go as often as I'd like so I only have these 2.

I also picked up Hide by Lisa Gardner from Wal Mart last week sometime.

Now, onto the library books. There's sooo many!
Don't Breathe A Word by Jennifer McMahon (currently reading)
13 Bullets: A Vampire Tale by David Wellington
Please Look After Mom by Kyung-sook Shin
The Eternal Kiss by various authors
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White (read and LOVED! I'll be doing my own review in a few minutes.)
What Is Left The Daughter by Howard Norman
Fangland by John Marks
Still Missing by Beth Gutcheon
The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler
The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton
Home Improvement: The Undead Edition by various authors
And that's it for my library haul.

Also, I ordered some books from Amazon that should be coming soon!

So how did you like my IMM? Please leave comments and let me know how I can improve and whatnot. Also, let me know if you have any questions about any of these books. I'll be doing reviews on most of them if anyone is interested. So, that's what I got in my mailbox, what did you get in yours?
